LEGO Engineering at the Kennedale YMCA

Build. Design. Create. Solve.

Big ideas start with a single brick! Our new LEGO Engineering classes at the Kennedale YMCA turn the excitement of building into hands-on opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, and math.

Using LEGO bricks, gears, and motors, participants explore how structures stand, how machines move, and how software helps bring ideas to life. As they build, test, and improve their creations, kids practice thinking like engineers—and discover that trying a new approach is part of the fun.

Hands-On Learning, Brick by Brick at the Kennedale Y

LEGO Engineering connects creative play with real-world mechanical, structural, and software principles. Participants explore how individual parts work together, experiment with designs, and discover how small changes can make a big difference.

From figuring out what makes a structure sturdy to exploring how gears transfer motion, the building process encourages kids to ask questions, test ideas, and learn through discovery.

Separate classes are offered for ages 5–7 and 8–14 at the Kennedale YMCA.

Benefits Include:

Encourages Creative Thinking

There’s more than one way to solve a building challenge! Kids use their imaginations to explore possibilities, try different designs, and turn ideas into creations they can see and touch.

Strengthens Problem-Solving Skills

When a design doesn’t work as expected, the learning continues. Building, testing, and making adjustments help kids practice critical thinking and approach challenges one step at a time.

Brings STEM Concepts to Life

Bricks, gears, and motors make abstract ideas easier to explore. Hands-on building helps kids connect concepts such as balance, movement, and cause and effect to the world around them.
