Grab your shoes and run!

Our youth track and field program is designed to provide children with the opportunity to learn the proper running and field event techniques, speed development, and an overall appreciation for the sport. The AMA YMCA participates as a team in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (T.A.A.F) Track & Field program, Region 4.

Meet our Coach

Shalesa Smith was born and raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin. She started her track career in
middle school and became the fastest girl there. Upon High school, she was transitioned from
a sprinter to a triple jumper where she gained her first, 6th place National title, the summer of
her freshman year. She went on to win State in Triple Jump and the 4 x 100 meter race her
senior year.

Those accomplishments led her to land a track and field scholarship at Indiana
State University where she finished her track career. During her time there, she received a
Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Physical Education with an emphasis in Coaching.
Upon graduation, she moved to Texas and landed a job as a Physical Education teacher and
coached middle and high school track for 3 years. Most recently, Coach Smith worked with
athletes as a Sports Performance Coach, developing their athletic skills in agility, vertical leap
and speed. Coach Smith looks forward to developing future athletes of all ages for years to
come!
