Our youth track and field program is designed to provide children with the opportunity to learn the proper running and field event techniques, speed development, and an overall appreciation for the sport. The AMA YMCA participates as a team in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (T.A.A.F) Track & Field program, Region 4.

Program Information:

Location(s): Region-wide (all meet locations are TBD in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro Area)
Ages: 5-17
Member Priority Registration Begins: March 22
Non-Member Registration Begins: March 29
Late Registration Begins: April 26 and ends May 10 ($10 late fee applies)
Circuit Meets: TBD 
Locations: TBD

$29 for members (supply fee), $89 for non-members

Meet Fees: $5-7 TAAF fee, per participant, for each circuit meet and variable registration fees, including cooler fees. Higher fees for regional and state meets may apply.
Spectator Fees: $5 TAAF spectator fee, per person for each circuit meet. Higher fees for regional and state meets may apply.

What’s Provided: All track and field equipment and track jersey
Equipment Needed: Water bottle, sneakers

Running Events:
• Hurdles: 80M, 100M, 110M, 200M, 300M
• Relays: 400M, 1600M
• Run: 800M, 1600M
• Dash/Sprints: 50M, 100M, 200M, 400M

Field Events:
• Long jump, shot put, discus, high jump

Meet our Coach

Shalesa Smith was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She started her track career in
middle school and became the fastest girl there. Upon High school, she was transitioned from
a sprinter to a triple jumper where she gained her first, 6th place National title, the summer of
her freshman year. She went on to win State in Triple Jump and the 4 x 100 meter race her
senior year.

Those accomplishments led her to land a track and field scholarship at Indiana
State University where she finished her track career. During her time there, she received a
Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Physical Education with an emphasis in Coaching.
Upon graduation, she moved to Texas and landed a job as a Physical Education teacher and
coached middle and high school track for 3 years. Most recently, Coach Smith worked with
athletes as a Sports Performance Coach, developing their athletic skills in agility, vertical leap
and speed. Coach Smith looks forward to developing future athletes of all ages for years to
