YMCA Service in Vietnam
Our YMCA has made an organizational commitment to integrate diversity, inclusion and global strategies across key operational and programmatic areas to strengthen our capacity to serve diverse and underserved populations, foster community cohesion, and address social equity and inclusion issues.
Recently, three of our YMCA leaders recently returned from an amazing and impactful mission trip to Vietnam. During their stay, they helped build three new school classrooms in the Ben Tre Province and taught English to children in grades 1-5. Eric Tucker, YMCA President & CEO, was accompanied by Aaron Perales, YMCA Board Chair and Bryan Sloan, a YMCA Board Member. Aaron was honored to have participated in the official ribbon cutting of the new classrooms with local school officials.
The YMCA delegation was truly touched by the genuine friendliness of the Vietnamese people, the beauty of their country and their remarkable cuisine. Our leaders are also excited to bring back their new knowledge and experience to engage our large Vietnamese community in Arlington!
