Job Description:

Under the direction of the Child Care Director/Coordinator, the Day Camp Director is responsible for overseeing the day to day operation of day camp. He/she will play an integral role in the development of staff. The Day Camp Director, at all times, is representative of the philosophy, mission, and goal of the YCMA and its camp program. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with the Child Care Director and fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

 Responsible for safety of campers at all times
 Oversees the day to day operations of the day camp
 Assists the Child Care Director in day camp staff hiring and training.
 Oversees and supervises day camp staff, program quality, policy and procedures and minimum standards for day camp
 Responsible for staff scheduling and ensuring all hours of operation are covered. Ensures staff stay in line with staffing hours
 Be available for staff meetings and leads day camp counselors in staff meetings
 Respectfully corrects inappropriate staff behavior and counsels them towards making positive changes
 Assists in supply purchases and expense oversight
 Communicates with parents about concerns
 Responsible for providing and facilitating diverse and quality program experiences for campers; prepares and administers appropriate curriculum
 Works with other staff to implement curriculum and special events
 Assists in marketing and distribution of program materials
 Reports any incidents, including suspected child abuse, to the Child Care Director immediately and completes all necessary paperwork in a timely manner
 Overall responsibility for maintaining day camp paperwork and all records
 Notifies Child Care Director of any broken or malfunctioning equipment immediately
 Maintains a neat, clean, safe, and orderly camp atmosphere

Preferred Qualifications:

 Must be at least 18 years old
 High school graduate/GED
 At least 2 years’ experience in day camp or a licensed youth program preferred
 Supervisory experience preferred
 Must be able to attend, lead and complete all required day camp training
 Must have experience working with children ages 5-13; day camp experience preferred
 Ability to swim at least 25 yards, including deep water preferred
 Must be able to communicate respectfully and effectively to superiors, co-workers, children, and parents
 Must have strong conflict management and decision making skills that coincide with YMCA established policies and standards
 Must be organized and detail-oriented
 Must have the knowledge and ability to respond in emergency situations and keep campers and staff safe
 Able to lift 50 pounds and lift and move equipment and supplies
 Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing work environment
 Must be able to work effectively with a diversity of people, different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and all ages. Interacts regularly with members, volunteers, and staff.
 Must have and maintain current CPR Pro/AED, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, Child Abuse Prevention, Blood borne Pathogens training, new hire orientation and other trainings required.
