Job Description:

Under the direction of the Director of Membership & Healthy Lifestyles, the Fitness Attendant will show exceptional customer service, communication and interactions with members and guests, assisting them with basic fitness information. He/she ill provide instruction in the wellness center including equipment organization, order, and maintenance and upkeep of the area. The successful employee will model the behavioral values established by the Association and will have a passion and enthusiasm for the mission of the Y.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

 Provide excellent member service through interactions that ensure the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA Quality Initiatives are met
 Communicate effectively and politely with others, portraying excellent listening and interpersonal skills
 Welcome all members and guests as they arrive; answer questions and concerns
 Educate members and guests on proper use of equipment
 Enforce proper wellness center etiquette
 Maintain a safe exercise environment
 Maintain the cleanliness of the wellness areas and clean fitness equipment as needed
 Assist with equipment usage and adjustments by demonstrating proper operation of all equipment
 Facilitate emergency responses as needed
 Maintain confidentiality
 Responsible for minor decisions regarding routine problems where precedents have been established
 Apply and comply with all YMCA policies and procedures and exemplify the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith

Preferred Qualifications:

 Must be at least 18 years of age; high school diploma or GED required
 At least 1 year of experience in the health and wellness field preferred
 Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
 Must have reliable transportation
 Must be able to work effectively with a diversity of people, different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and all ages. Interacts regularly with members, volunteers, staff and other community leaders.
 Must have and maintain current CPR Pro/AED, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, Child Abuse Prevention, Blood borne Pathogens training, hazard communication, slips, trips, and falls training, new hire orientation and any other trainings required
