Arlington residents Bill and Shari Bowie to be honored for their legacy to the community
Arlington, TX, April 12, 2017 – Giving comes as second nature to Bill and Shari Bowie when it comes to supporting the community they love. From volunteering their time to local organizations to providing generous gifts to countless charities, the Bowies have given much to transform thousands of lives.
Yet they are humbled by the recognition that the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA has established to honor their legacy to the organization and to the community. The Arlington couple will be receiving the first award named in their honor, The Bill and Shari Bowie Community Leadership Award, during the Annual Better Together Community Gathering on April 20.
The event, which is open to the public, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Arlington ISD’s Mac Bernd Professional Development Center, 1111 W. “Bill and Shari Bowie have made a profound impact to the Y and to this community over the years through their outstanding service and generosity,” says Roberto E. Aguirre, President and CEO of the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA. “ Our leadership on the YMCA Board of Directors, as well as our entire association, thought it would be a great opportunity to honor their legacy by establishing this award in their name.”
The Bowies have devoted their time and generosity to the local Y ever since Bill Bowie started his days as a volunteer basketball coach in the early 1990s.
Bill served on the YMCA Board of Directors at the turn of the 21st century, providing his valuable leadership and expertise as Board Chair in 2004-2005. The Bowies have also given generously to the Y to provide financial assistance to families in needs.
Apart from the Y, the Bowies have also dedicated themselves to many other local, national and international charities, impactng the community at a much broader level. Among other organizations they hold dear to their heart include Trinity United Methodist Church (their local church), Trinity Sports Foundation, Salvation Army, SafeHaven, Arlington Urban Ministries, American Cancer Society, UNICEF, Truth for Life, Levitt and Arlington Policemen’s Foundation.
